After having a nice 4-5 week break after summer school, I’m back at Furman to start the school year. We had our basketball team meeting last night. It consisted of the annual welcome back from the AD, assistant AD, and NCAA compliance representative. They basically reminded us what is expected of us as Student-Athletes in the classroom, on campus, and around Greenville. We had to sign our lives away to the NCAA in a 7 or 8 page packet that required roughly 10 signatures. I found it hilarious that I had to sign something that said basically: The NCAA can use my image or likeness for promotional use and to advertise their national championships. There is literally a 0% chance that the NCAA would ever use me to advertise an NCAA championship.
I’m 95% sure that I am going to major in Business so I’m taking two classes this term that count towards that major: Computer Science and Principles of Marketing. I’m also taking Public Speaking. I somehow got signed up for History of Gender in South Asia and while it would count towards the Asian/African course requirement I am going to drop it. Not really something I find all that interesting.
We start up basketball with pickup tonight and will have individual workouts 3 days a week in the preseason. We’ll be lifting weights 4 days a week. The coaches leave it up to us how often we play pickup and we will probably be playing 3-4 days a week.
